Hello. My name is Meryl Koslow and I am on the Membership Committee of the Women’s Chamber. I am writing this article today to ask YOU: what inspired YOU to become a member of this organization? If you have not done so yet, what are you waiting for? For me, what really sealed it was when I was at the Biltmore Hotel this past January listening to Jane Pauley and Patricia Ireland speak. And …to see Thelma Gibson herself. I had the privilege of actually having a conversation with Ms. Pauley about promoting a book, as I am an author. I wanted to hear what she had to say. It was a thrill to have that opportunity to speak with her. Imagine…face to face with Jane Pauley, a celebrity but as down to earth as anyone could be.
Then when I sat down at my table, there were great women and men there. I had a woman who worked for a private jet company and a man who represented the Miami-Dade County legal system. There were women from all over, at least 200 in attendance, and of course, there was that wonderful smiling face of Toma Rusk: always happy, always for people winning.
I looked around the ballroom at this powerful group.
I looked at our past President, Nordis Alvarez, and I looked at our new President, Naomi Berry.
I looked around and said WOW, I am in the right place!
After the luncheon, I walked over to Toma and asked, ”How do I get involved?”
I emailed a Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, Allison Kernisky, and asked her what committees needed help. She responded, ”Join mine!” Now I am making friends, really nice friends who happen to be powerful businesswomen.
For example, I’ve met Marlene Green, Membership Committee Co-Chair, who is a professional business coach and who speaks at the Kellogg School of Business. I have met Elizabeth Karwowski, who does credit repair and Allison, who is a litigator.
I wanted to share this with you because there is a reason you are here at the Women’s Chamber.
I would like to hear from you. Why are YOU here? What are YOU getting from this experience? What is your “why?” If you would like to share, I would love to hear from you. I welcome your friendship.
